About Onachantha

Onachantha is an event conducted in the background of our cultural festival Onam, which falls in August- September every year. We are organizing this event as part of our mission to bring our communities closer and connected. Onam is renowned to be the only secular festival of India and by celebrating it every year, our focus is to establish a harmony among different communities and be a platform to bring different cultures together giving us an opportunity to connect each other regardless of cultural diversities.

About Onam

Onam is an annual festival celebrated in the South-Indian state - Kerala. It is primarily a harvest festival celebrated by the Malayalam speaking people of Kerala. According to legend, the festival is celebrated to commemorate old King Mahabali, whose spirit is said to visit his people at the time of Onam. Onam is a major annual event for Malayali community in and outside India and is celebrated as a state festival regardless of religion.

Ente Canada Onachantha

Ente Canada Onachantha is conceived as a fair which includes few fun rides for kids including Bouncy Castles, food stalls like Onasadya (traditional Onam feast) , Payasam (Porridge) Mela , different vendor stalls for clothing and jewellery, gift items, groceries and likewise. The fair will be live from 11am to 11 pm ,there will be cultural events and performances throughout the event. The performances include dance, music showcasing talents from different parts of India and not just Kerala. And last year we also had Chinese dragon dancers with drums performing live, which attracted people from communities other than from India.

We have been organizing this successfully for past two years, as an outdoor event, same location. First one in 2021, had total attendees of about 1000 people, amidst Covid restrictions strictly enforced. And last year it doubled to over 2000 of carefully managed crowd and we had people from different communities and ethnic backgrounds visiting our event.
